The full name is androgenic anabolic steroids or more commonly known as just anabolic steroids. This drug was initially created to treat hypogonadism, where the patient is incapable of producing testosterone for normal growth and sexual functioning.

As anabolic steroids are synthetic derivatives of the male hormone testosterone, it encourages the growth of skeletal muscles and lean body mass. • Men - lower sperm count, higher erectile dysfunction, impotence, shrinkage of the testicles, baldness and development of breasts.
  
• Women - Facial hair growth, clitoris enlargement, changes or ending of the menstrual cycle, lowering of the voice.
  
• Adolescents – Accelerated puberty changes, premature end to growth and premature skeletal maturity.
