I’d been thinking about starting my own business for several years, but never really knew what I wanted to do until just recently. After a lot of careful consideration, I decided to sell t-shirts on eBay and from my own website. I’ve always had a knack for coming up with funny slogans and cool graphics, and just figured that this kind of thing would be right up my alley. Handling the online portion of the business was easy, but finding affordable screen printing equipment turned out to be more of a challenge.

It’s tough being a woman these days. We wanted female emancipation, but did we really get it? It appears that all we gained was the right to do two jobs. One at home and one in the work place. Working women get a bad press if they have kids. The reality is that most women have to work in order to pay the bills. I don’t want to bash the entire male population, far from it. A lot of men pitch in with child care and household chores. A lot don’t.

The life of a human resource professional is not a simple one. For one thing, they are tasked with what is probably the most difficult job in the corporate firmament. They are the ones who need to get hold of the right people, at the right price to do the right job and stay with the company for the right amount of time. But this is easier in the ideal world than in the cut throat world we live in. And secondly, and in my humble opinion most distastefully, human resource professional are the ones who have to handle any of the myriad human resource issues that are likely to crop up in a course of a normal day’s work.
