Take The Best Car Photos Of Your Life With These Photography Tips And More.
The first step in taking great picture of your car is to make sure it’s clean. Wash it, dry it and clean your tires. Next make sure the hood, the trunk and all windows are closed. Check your visors to make sure they are both up. You want a clean vehicle in your car photos.
A suitable location is essential when taking pictures. This is true whether you are trying to sell the car or just taking car photos for the fun of it. You should look for an area with a clean background before shooting the car photos. Who wants to show off their prized possession surrounded by a bunch of junk?
Objects in the background will make your photos look messy, and will obscure the car’s lines and detail. The best background is one that is even and not too bright. A concrete or tarmac floor with a solid wall behind it can be a good location for car photos. Wetting down pavement darkens it and provides a “glistening” highlight effect. Grass can be good as long as the background is not cluttered, but should only be used as a last resort. Try to avoid light or telephone poles. If your shooting in front of your garage, make sure the garage door is closed in your car photos.
When using your camera outside, the best results are obtained when the car is parked out of direct sunlight. Bright sunlight tends to highlight surface swirl marks, and makes the car’s color look washed out. Shooting your car photos with a digital camera on an overcast day, or with the car parked in the shade, usually gives good results. Just make sure your flash doesn’t cause a glare on the image.
If your car is yellow, or another bright pastel hue, it will be more difficult to shoot a good picture. Try parking it on white concrete to benefit from upward-reflection of sunlight or skylight. Sunrise or sunset is the best time of day to shoot this color car. If the car photos are taken at mid-morning or mid-afternoon, utilize the clean shade provided by a building and use your flash.
Try zooming in or out so that the car almost fills the entire screen with a small area around it for balance. Shoot from a normal standing position at eye level. Shooting from to low may make the car look distorted in the car photos.
If you are going to use the picture to sell your car, you should shoot the vehicle from 3 different angles. One photo should show the car from front three-quarter. One photo should show the car from side on. The third photo should show the car from rear three-quarter. Remember, buyers are more interested in what the car looks like, not how good you are at photography.
