Ran Out Of Ideas For Practical Wedding Gifts? Have You Ever Considered A Laundry Basket?

Every year we scratch our heads trying to figure out ideal presants for our friends. One of the best ideas is to actually get something practical they can use, like a laundry basket for example.

A friend of mine is going to get married for the second time. Her first marriage ended in divorce several years ago. The couple is going to have a small wedding for close friends and relatives. I told my friend that I would like to have a bridal shower for her. She did not want a shower where she would get night gowns and sexy underwear and she had most of the things that she needed for her home. I suggested that we have a shower and ask people to bring practical gifts that everyone needs to keep a household running.

I sent out invitations for the bridal shower and made preparations for the event, which was going to be held at my home. One day before the shower I was going to do a load of laundry. As I was carrying the laundry basket down to the basement I noticed that it had several cracks in the plastic. This gave me an idea for a practical gift for my friend. I would buy her a laundry basket. This is something that everyone uses and does not replace very often.

I went to an import store and looked through their wicker items. I thought I would give my friend a wicker laundry basket instead of the plastic variety. There were several wicker baskets to choose from that would be perfect to use as a laundry basket. I selected a rectangular one with a tight weave. The handles were securely attached and were very sturdy. I then went to a bath and kitchen store and purchased two sets of bath towels as well as some kitchen towels. I planned to place them in the laundry basket to complete the gift for my friend.

I decided to have the shower on a Saturday morning. I prepared a brunch for the guests and bought fresh flowers to decorate the living room where we would gather. I decided to put tissue wrap around the towels and placed a large bow on the laundry basket rather than trying to wrap the large awkward item. I had placed the laundry basket by the fireplace hearth so the guests would know where to place their gifts.

My friend received wonderful practical gifts. Another woman also gave her a plastic laundry basket. She had filled hers with detergent, fabric softener and stain remover. My friend was pleased to have more than one basket so that she could sort her clothes in them. She also received many kitchen gadgets as well as new bedding and additional towels. We all agreed that it would be nice to have a shower every few years to have all new practical items.
