Planning
to migrate to Canada? Here are basic Canada immigration information
to help make your migration smooth & easy.
Canada
is one of the few countries in the world that actively looks for
immigrants. Because of this, it makes its one of the easier and
better countries to migrate to. As a foreign worker in Canada, you
will not only need to get a ‘good job’ but you have
to secure a work permit in order to be working legally in Canada.
You may either travel there on a temporary visa and apply for a
work permit when you are there, or you can choose to become a permanent
resident of Canada.
Temporary
Immigration
-
Most countries use the term Work Permit but in Canada, it is
known as an Employment Authorization or EA.
-
In order to work and live in Canada you will need to obtain
and Employment Authorization and then travel to Canada on a visitor’s
visa.
- To get an EA you must have a job offer that has been validated
by the Human Resources Development Canada.
- The validation process can be complicated and exemption is given
for the following:
• Software professionals
• Member of a Youth Exchange Program
• Spouse of a highly skilled temporary worker
- The easiest way to temporary migrate to Canada is to get a job
there so it is advisable to review some career sites online.
- Keep in mind though that temporary workers are considered visitors
of Canada. This means that you will be expected to leave Canada
if your employment is terminated.
- In order to immigrate to Canada permanently, you will need to
get a permanent resident status in Canada.
Permanent
Immigration
- Entrepreneurs and the self-employed are welcomed to immigrate
to Canada.
- In
most cases business people would have to meet the more onerous
requirements of the entrepreneur category.
- There
are only a limited number of occupations that would be considered
under the self-employed category, such as an artist, writer, and
a few others.
-
You can also gain permanent residence and move to Canada if you
are sponsored by a citizen of Canada or another permanent resident.
- This
only applies if you are a close relative such as a spouse, parent
or child of the person.
- The
sponsor will need to show that they have sufficient funds to look
after the relative.
